Life has been going on. There is a decent routine and much of the work has been done over the few weeks both personally and professionally. Highlight: Built apps dashboard for personal use

Ethics

I wanted to hold on to a few simple ethics in whatever I create.

Promoting choice in how people experience apps, so as a first step

  • Customised UI of this blog to let readers decide how they want to see things.
  • Options for now include themes(light/dark), reading formats (list, compact), toggling sounds, and category dropdown. Planning to also add an option to let user hide images altogether if they don't want to see.
  • The idea is: let people choose, don’t force.

Promoting the use of open source data, so as a first step

  • Built civic-pulse as a mock project to get a feel for my larger ideology(Missed attending FOSS India this time, hope to attend next time).
  • The focus: use open data and shape to any form based on our needs.

Promoting usage of LLMs as tools, so as a first step

  • Built and hosted apps.haripriya.org to share collection of small such apps publicly (which also contains info such as the stacks used, architecture diagrams and commits).
  • Each small app is an example of how we can use LLMs offline to build quickly, and not as “real-time feeds”.
  • Larger goal: to promote idea that building apps can be simple these days, and in our own hands. By relying more on math, algorithms, and logic(with the help of LLMs that can helps you to access info quickly) rather than chasing real-time feeds using API tokens.

They are not fully built apps yet and lot of improvements are required.
All these apps are LCARS theme based :) I am a big time star trek fan, and I will also be publishing a package for it soon, so that you can just import and use if you also want to include

Personal

Vidhya and I drove to Chiguru farm in her car to attend a foraging event. I had visited the farm before but learnt a lot about foraging that day. This was new to me. We also climbed up to visit Shri Gudde Jadelingeshwara Temple for the view, where two other people(who hosted the event) joined us.

I notice how easily politics everywhere slips into labels. The moment someone is reduced to a category, we lose sight of the person behind it. Branding people this way only creates distance at the time when we need more connection. Hope for the future comes from accepting our differences without letting them define who has a place and who does not.

I find I work best when I give full attention to the moment. So when I meet someone these days, I try to keep my phone aside and be present. With notifications off, my replies often come later, and that is fine. Urgent things reach me through a call, and when I am in person I try to give my best, so any delay is never meant to hurt.
