I have always wanted to build my own version of core memories inspired from the movie Inside out. These days we(/I) take endless photos, and they just keep piling up with no real shape(esp with Tars). The phone and sync apps do their job, but I don’t want my memories locked into systems that asks for subscriptions to continue (even if they end up from big platforms. At some point, I should be able to get away with subscriptions).
What I wanted is something closer to me, a physical yet digital version of my data. I’ve set up a Raspberry Pi 4B with 2GB RAM as my home server, and for now it holds only my Inktober2025 sketches so that it feels like a fresh start. I used immich to organise and host my photos. It also comes with an Android and iOS app(Pretty cool!). Below is the sample web view screenshot.

Slowly, I want to grow this into a library that holds actual core memories from my life. The workstation feels almost complete :). I am happy about it.

More on home server
- I purchased rasberry pi 4 model b with 2GB RAM few years back. I made it put to use.
- Optimised and turned off ML layer(face recognition for now, and sync'ing happens only one at a time from the queue. So its slow but fine for now).
- Used immich, and almost running neck on neck with memory, but this is fine. I will upgrade this when I can budget out the cost.
immich_server : ~600MB immich_postgres: ~200MB immich_redis : ~50MB immich_ML : ~50MB (idle) System + Other : ~700MB Total Used : ~1.6GB
